Scunthorpe newspaper prints 'c**k' and 'c***' on obituaries' page

LOCAL newspaper readers were left outraged after the words 'c**k' and 'c***' on the obituary pages.

The mishap was printed in the weekly Scunthorpe Telegraph underneath a notice marking the passing of a beloved Lincolnshire great-grandma.

Executives at the paper apologised for the mistake - joking that one of the rude words was already in the town's name.

The listing reads: "C**K Forename Please complete the following fields, as you type.

"You will see a preview of your advert. C***."

Readers hit out at the unfortunate typo, which reportedly came as editors tested the swear filter.

Janine Keightley, 49, fumed: "That's terrible, I can't believe they've let that happen.

"It's so disgusting and disrespectful to people who have paid to put obituaries in this week. It shows a lack of care and attention."

Sammy De-Freitas added: "I thought it was a p**s take at first.

"My grandma's face is going to be a picture when she reads that."

A spokesperson said: "We were testing the system to see if it would allow those words in and unfortunately it has not been removed.

"Ironically that word is in the town's name too.

"We do apologise to any customer who has been upset by this, it was a one-off and will be checked more thoroughly in future."
